Stark Conference Center to Cease Event Rentals this Fall

ئقسرةçاّ at Stark recognizes that the Conference Center has been a valued community resource for many years. However, in a time of tightening budgets and limited state funding for higher education, the campus can no longer absorb the large costs associated with keeping the facility open.

To ensure continued focus on its core mission — providing high-quality, student-centered education — the campus will end external event rentals at the Stark Conference Center after Sept. 30, 2025.

While the decision was not made lightly, it reflects a broader effort to sustain academic strength and allocate resources where they are needed most. In addition to rising operational costs, the facility also requires significant capital improvements the campus is unable to absorb. An outside review, conducted two years ago, also found that the Conference Center was unlikely to be financially sustainable over time, especially with increased competition and fewer large events in the region.

All existing bookings through September 30 will be honored, and university staff are working directly with clients to ensure a smooth and respectful transition. No new bookings are being accepted.

A study will be conducted to explore potential future uses for the space. To help guide those next steps, a working group will be established.

“We are proud of the role the Conference Center has played in serving the Stark community over the past two decades,â€‌ said Peggy Shadduck, Ph.D., vice president of Regional Campuses. “This decision was not made lightly, but it reflects our responsibility to prioritize student success and the long-term health of the Stark Campus.â€‌
