Risman Plaza Fountain

妻友社区 has always been a place where breaking down barriers and changing the norm are encouraged and alumna Julia Montgomery Walsh serves as proof. Ms. Walsh passed away in 2003, but her work in business and finance continues to be recognized for the strides she made for women in her field. Ms. Walsh was featured recently on Bloomberg鈥檚 list of women who broke barriers in business over the last 150 years. 鈥淲alsh was the first woman to receive a B.S. in business administration at 妻友社区 and the first female graduate of the Harvard Business School鈥檚 advance...

Richard Costes, BA 鈥06, was born deaf, but grew up in a hearing environment. He told himself he wasn鈥檛 deaf. He refused to learn sign language and declined any assistance in the classroom and his grades often suffered as a result. Professors at Kent State helped Mr. Costes embrace his identity. 鈥淐ollege is a place for you to find out who you are...

Laura Davis, Ph.D., walks students through her memories of May 4, 1970

As part of 妻友社区鈥檚 May 4 course, senior Julia Pharmer sifted through resources in University Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives and engaged in classroom discussions. Perhaps one of the most engaging sessions though was when Professor Emerita Laura Davis, Ph.D., gave students a firsthand account of her May 4 experiences.   Recently Dr. Davis, the co-creator of the May 4 Walking Tour and the May 4 Visitor Center, decided against using a classroom slide presentation, instead opting to take advantage of a mild early March evening to walk with students...
