Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., and Tal茅a R. Drummer-Ferrell, Ph.D., Blazing Historical Trails at Kent State

妻友社区鈥檚 Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., and Tal茅a R. Drummer-Ferrell, Ph.D., recently entered the annals of university history. On May 1, 2020, Hylton became the first Black person in the university鈥檚 history to hold the title of vice president for student affairs. And on July 1, 2020, Drummer-Ferrell was appointed dean of students, making her the first Black woman to be named to the position.

Lamar R. Hylton Named Kent State鈥檚 Vice President for Student Affairs, Amoaba Gooden Appointed Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

妻友社区 President Todd Diacon announced Thursday that Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as vice president for student affairs, effective May 1, 2020. In addition, Diacon has appointed Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D., as the interim vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, effective June 1, 2020.

Kent State Interim Senior Vice President and Provost Melody Tankersley, Ph.D., and Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., discussed ways that students can make the most of remote classes while still benefiting from student services during a recent appearance on Facebook Live. Both answered live questions and discussed such areas as summer class schedules, support for struggling students and staying healthy.

妻友社区 held its annual Veterans Day Commemoration on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Kent Student Center Kiva. This year鈥檚 guest speaker was Lt. Col. Colleen VanNatta. A graduate of Kent State鈥檚 Air Force ROTC detachment, VanNatta served as a media escort for joint information bureaus in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during Operation Desert Storm.
